Prestige Trucking, Inc.

Trucking & Transportation Logistics

From a failing legacy system to a full back office platform

A multi-year partnership that replaced an unstable billing computer with a stable, cloud-hosted platform, then grew to include dispatch and driver portals connecting the office to the field.

Who they are

Prestige Trucking, Inc. runs a trucking operation that depends on tracking customers, drivers, tickets, invoices, and payments accurately every day. Like a lot of growing trucking companies, their back office software hadn't kept pace with the business.

The challenge

Prestige Trucking's billing application was running on a computer that was failing. Some days it worked. Some days it crashed. That kind of instability makes it hard to run a business that depends on generating invoices and tracking payments on a daily basis.
Beyond the immediate risk of losing the system entirely, Prestige Trucking wanted a modern application that kept the parts of their old workflow that worked, while fixing the parts that didn't. They also needed to keep access to their historical data in the old system for reference, and they wanted a technology partner who could help them automate more of their workflow and cut down on manual data entry.

Getting to work

We started by solving the most urgent problem first. To stop the bleeding, we moved Prestige Trucking's existing legacy application onto a cloud server so their team had a stable, accessible system to work from while we built the replacement. We set up separate RDP accounts and locked down access to specific IPs and devices to keep that environment secure, and we kept the legacy application online for archival purposes so their historical data stayed accessible.
With their day-to-day operations stabilized, we met with Prestige Trucking in person to walk through their existing business process. We wanted to understand their bottlenecks, where manual work was slowing them down, and how each person on their team actually used the system day to day. We built mockups and walked through every screen with them throughout development, incorporating their feedback and offering suggestions along the way. Part of that process was helping the team put words to workflows they understood intuitively but hadn't had to formally define before.

What we built

The back office platform
Using ASP.NET Core MVC, we built Prestige Trucking a new back office system that let them add customers, drivers, and tickets, generate invoices, and create payments, all from one application. Users can search specific records, create new items, and pull reports without digging through the old system.
Testing and performance engineering
We tested the application in stages, releasing alpha and beta versions and running automated tests written by our internal development team to catch edge cases before they became real problems. To make sure the system could handle real-world volume, we used database seeding to generate large datasets that mimicked production use, which let us test page speed, refine queries, identify bottlenecks, and add SQL indexes where they were needed.
Because some of the relationships between entities in the system were complex, we implemented CQRS along with custom SQL strategies, including Unit of Work patterns for transactional integrity, temp tables, and SQLBulkCopy commands to move large amounts of data efficiently.
As Prestige Trucking's needs evolved, we continued the same process for every new iteration: mockups, testing, beta evaluations, and scheduled after-hours deployments to avoid disrupting their business.
Dispatching portal and driver portal
As the platform matured, Prestige Trucking needed a better way to coordinate between the office and drivers in the field. We built a dispatching portal with a custom scheduling calendar that lets dispatchers assign drivers, configure driver availability by day, and see every job on a single day view. The dispatch dashboard consolidates back office workflows onto one screen, and we integrated Twilio so dispatchers can text job assignments directly to drivers, who can accept or reject the job from their phone.
For drivers in the field, we evaluated building a native mobile app but landed on a mobile-optimized web portal instead, accessible through a link sent directly to the driver's phone. Not sure whether your team needs an app or a web portal? This guide breaks down native app, PWA, or website options. The driver portal lets field staff fill out tickets and upload their work directly into the back office system, so office staff no longer have to manually re-enter data from paper tickets. That single change reduced manual work across the team and gave office staff time back for other priorities.

Built with

  • C# .NET Core / ASP.NET Core MVC

  • SQL Server, with CQRS, Unit of Work patterns, temp tables, and SQLBulkCopy for performance at scale

  • Azure, for cloud infrastructure

  • Twilio, for SMS-based dispatch communication

The impact

Prestige Trucking went from a single failing computer running critical business software to a stable, cloud-hosted platform accessible to multiple users at once. Manual data entry dropped significantly once the driver portal let field staff submit tickets directly instead of office staff re-keying paper tickets. Dispatch operations that used to require juggling separate tools now run from one dashboard, with driver scheduling, availability, and job communication all in one place.
The relationship has continued well beyond the initial build, with new iterations, ongoing testing, and scheduled maintenance built into the process as Prestige Trucking's needs have changed.
